The Logan Square Project (#LGNSQ) is a forthcoming photography
book about the people and places that define Logan Square, a community
in the midst of gentrification in Chicago.
Along with a small group of artists, writers, designers and researchers
I'm contributing to a book about a neighborhood that welcomed me
to Chicago in the mid 90's, and is now on a rapid trajectory of change fueled
by the arts, cultural diversity and well-funded urban redevelopment.
Working on this project has been a chance to reexamine and reconnect with
my adopted city and a specifically a neighborhood that contributed to my values
and sense of what it means to be home. The people I meet for this project
include business owners, activists, long time community stakeholders and artists whose work is,
at its heart, about adding value to the community they live in. It's the outcomes they produce
which continues to attract new residents hoping to live in the midst of an urban revival.
